Welcome! The purpose of this site is to offer some helpful tips and advice for those of you looking to purchase a new or used copier. I’ll keep it simple and to the point, and hopefully it helps you find the right copier that works best for you.
- What is your price range? This will determine whether or not you can afford a new or used copier and the many options that come with copiers today.
- What is the size of your business and what is your monthly print volume? This will determine the size of the copier you will need to purchase. Make sure you have a general idea before consulting with a sales person to get an accurate quote.
- What types of options will you need? Do you need to just make copies or do you need to scan, print, copy, fax, and store documents? The plus side to buying a used copier is that most of these options will already be present so you don’t have to pay for the extra options.
- If you are buying a new or used copier you should try and stick with the brand name copiers like Ricoh, Xerox, Canon, H-P, and Konica-Minolta since they are recognized for their quality and parts availability.
- Will you need a maintenance agreement or will you pay for service by the hour when the copier breaks down. Copier repairs can be quite costly , so decide how much copying you will be doing and whether or not a maintenance agreement is worth the expense. If you are heavily dependent upon the copier then a maintenance agreement is must since you will be a priority over billable calls and they may even provide a free loaner if the pair can’t be completed in a timely manner.
- Do you want the toner supplies included in your maintenance agreement? This all depends on your monthly volume , but if you plan on using the copier a lot I would have the toner supplies included so you don’t have to pay for it which can be costly.
- Should you buy from a dealership or a large corporation? Do your homework and ask for customer references which should be provided to you without any hesitation by any company that wants your business.
- Test the copy machine and all of the functions out before they deliver it to your place of business, especially with a used copier.
- Check the mechanical meter reading on the copier and compare it to the digital meter reading on the copier so they match. They might be a click or two off, but if they are off by thousands, then red flags should pop up.
- Find out the type of warranty that comes with the new or used copier and how quick their response time is for service when it breaks down. Some companies offer 4 hour response times but you will pay a premium for it, so found out what their average response time is. It should be 8 hours or less.
- Always get a bill of sale for any new or used copier and ask about their return policy. You may even be able to demo the copier prior to purchasing it which is fairly common so try that appraoch if you are slighly unsure about whether or not it will meet your needs.
Always do your own research and be prepared before shopping for a new or used copier since it can be a big financial investment for your place of business. Shop around online, compare prices, and check out online reviews about different types of copier brands and hopefully you find the right copier for you at a fair price.
